The December impression of our smartphones – 4 typical smartphone damages on Christmas Eve
The hardest time for smartphones is approaching – during the holiday season, the risk of damage to smartphones increases. More than 75% of damage to these devices is mechanical and the average life of the phone is 18 months*. Men damage smartphones more often than women, and in more than 70% of cases, the “perpetrators” are under 40.
December is a time of increased shopping. The list of top gifts is dominated by electronics, and the object of dreams for many people is a new smartphone. Christmas, however, also means a greater threat to phones, because we use them almost always and everywhere. Experts confirm that at the end of the year the number of damage to smartphones is higher. The most common cause are mechanical defects, which are not covered by the standard manufacturer’s warranty, and do not fall within the scope of the warranty provided by the seller. Repair or replacement with a new one can only be provided by additional paid equipment insurance, commonly referred to as extended warranties.
1. hit the railing after sharp braking of the bus….
Christmas is a time when we travel a lot – to family, friends, to New Year’s Eve parties. Not every smartphone will survive it. Smartphone damage, whether it’s traveling or moving, is quite common, and over 70% of all defects are on the screen*. Acute braking of the bus, which caused the smartphone to hit the railing or fall, overvoltage caused by power failure in the car are other common examples of damage caused during travel. By insuring yourself against unintentional damage, you’ll save on possible repair or even replacement costs.
Phone drowned in a compote of drought….
Children are responsible for a number of injuries, as they use smartphones more and more often. Christmas, family photos, time to play with children, not only their own, are another typical situation in which we damage our phones. Throwing a phone into a glass of compote by a child (e.g. during Christmas Eve dinner) is not a coincidence.
He fell into a bowl with borscht on Christmas Eve….
On holidays, or rather in the period immediately before Christmas, we spend more time in the kitchen preparing e.g. Christmas dishes. More and more often recipes are not in a notebook, but on the screen of a smartphone. Hence, it is only a step away from sinking it in a sink or boiling cabbage. Unfortunately, if you have to pay for such a repair out of your own pocket, it will certainly not be “cheap as borscht”.
“He fell to the mass on the cake”, “landed in the compote”, “flooding while pouring borscht on Christmas Eve” – these are theoretical, but probable Christmas accidents with the phone in the main, although of course unplanned role.
Typical winter games….
Sporting activity is a “slippery slope” for many smartphones, and winter-holiday events of this type are easy to find on Internet forums:
“When I was making a snowman with children, my phone fell out of my snow pocket. I didn’t notice it, I found it only a day later. “I was on the ice rink, the phone fell out of my hand and on the ice. Another person stepped on the equipment with a skate.
We damage our smartphones often. Definitely too often.
Internet forums and social networks are full of colorful stories documented with suggestive pictures of damaged equipment, and statistics from the United States (American none in this area) are merciless:
1/3 of smartphones are damaged, which in the United States alone translates into 1 damaged phone every 2 seconds,
where the most common defects are: home (52%), work (20%), away from home (13%), public transport (9%), own car (4%),
the average lifetime of a smartphone is only 18 months,
as much as 75% of all damage phones are mechanical,
men damage smartphones more often than women, and in more than 70% of cases, the “perpetrators” are people under 40,
70% of all damage is caused by screen cracks and the most common culprits are children.
Save your smartphone
Fast, case or protective film is an additional part of the smartphone’s equipment. However, they are not able to provide “water” or “pavement resistance”. Much more effective protection may be the equipment insurance, the so-called extended warranty, which are offered in electronics stores and cost about several dozen percent of the value of new equipment.
– Extending coverage under the extended warranty insurance is a very reasonable proposal, especially in the case of smartphones. We can protect ourselves against any unintentional damage, even that caused by our inattention. The policy also provides protection against overvoltage, burglary and robbery.
How to insure your equipment well?
It is always worth to carefully analyze the insurance terms and conditions, which are detailed in the following chapters.
