Cable protection – desk grommet
The common feeling of tangled, bent cables is known to drive people crazy. With the help of cable grommets, you can bring order and tidiness to your work area such as your desk. They allow you to run a cable across a desk or along a wall. They can be used for cables from your desktop computer, laptop charger, lamps, but also for high-voltage electrical cables. Its main task, apart from providing order, is to protect the cable construction itself from mechanical damage. This is because the cable grommet provides stiffening of the cable protecting it from constant bending, which can lead to breaking the insulation layer.
Types and design
There are round, square or rectangular grommets available in furniture shops. Any choice will do, so it just depends on the individual taste of the buyer. One of the main elements with which each furniture culvert is equipped is the presence of so-called brushes that hold wires. They do not allow the cables to move freely.
They are made of various materials. The most popular include metal, aluminium, plastics such as rubber. They differ in size, having various diameters.
We distinguish between conduits:
– installation
– gas-tight
-watertight
In specialised cables, the cable ducts may also perform an insulating function, ensuring adequate water tightness. This protects the cable structure from flooding.
Application
The main applications include protection against mechanical damage caused by bending the cable, protection against extreme temperatures and moisture. This provides protection for the cable itself, but also for the user by protecting against electric shock. In addition, the cable grommets bring order to our workplace as it is possible to splice many different cables from a given skirting board and lead them to the designated place.

Accessories
The most popular accessories are sealing washers, which are placed between the clamping ring and the clamping sleeve. There are also pressure putty and protective plates on the market. All work together to protect against damage and bending of the cables.
Cable ducts are mainly used in telecommunications, gas installations or electricity.
